I started building cosplay weapons, armor and costumes in 2014, which makes me a bit of a "late cosplay" bloomer, as I was 43 years old at the time. My very first cosplay was one of my favorite characters, Jayne Cobb from the movie "Serenity."
Since then, I've focused mainly on armor builds. A Jayne Cobb/Gears of War mash-up character, and a Seahawks-themed Warlock, Hunter, and Titan from Destiny. I love trying new techniques, so my next build was the police character from the movie "The Fifth Element". It involved a TON of sewing (over 60 hours) that really put me out of my comfort zone. I'm currently working on my biggest armor build yet; a Red Legion soldier character from the video game Destiny 2. It will stand over 7 feet tall, and I'm hoping to debut it at Emerald City Comicon in March.
I've been involved in all sorts of creative work for over fifteen years. I've always enjoyed working with my hands. I have a lot of practice rebuilding and remodeling homes, and have spent several years making attractive yet functional protective fighting body armor out of plastic, metal, and leather for the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). I also enjoy woodworking, and have made several cabinets, jewelry cases, and other wood projects. I’m excited that I stepped into the arena of creating one-of-a-kind weapons, armor, and costumes and have loved every minute of it!
